The kitchen team led by head chef Barbara Ramerstorfer attaches great importance to freshness and regionality. The dishes are freshly prepared every day using ingredients from local suppliers.
There is a salad buffet, a soup, a main course and a vegetarian alternative. For dessert, desserts or fresh fruit are offered alternately for free. In the morning and afternoon there is a healthy snack for the school and the workshops.
The kitchen team endeavours to put together a varied menu and is also happy to consider requests from pupils and teachers.
„Big ones help little ones“ is the motto of a project that has been running at our school for several years, which we have called the Buddy Project. The word buddy comes from the English language and means buddy or comrade.
Pupils in Year 6 supervise and support pupils in Year 1.
First-year pupils are assigned to buddies in the first week of school. Each buddy looks after one to two 1st graders.
Everything is new for the little ones at school. A completely different daily routine than at home, a new place to live for the interns, new teachers and carers, lots of new classmates. All of this can cause uncertainty. This is where the buddies can help. They act as carers and allay fears. The buddies receive ongoing training and are supported by our carers. The most important thing is the trust between buddy and pupil, meeting up during breaks and free periods. Joint activities are organised at regular intervals.
Three times a school year, the boys and girls spend a weekend together at the boarding school. This primarily serves to promote social interaction within the group community. Depending on their interests, the programme includes activities on and around the school grounds as well as visits to events and joint activities (skiing, swimming, cinema, etc.). If required, there are also supervised learning units. The programme is determined in advance by the pupils in a group and their teachers. It includes both special group programmes and cross-group activities.
In addition to this, there are also so-called „special interest weekends“, during which students have the opportunity to stay at the boarding school. Supervision is provided either in a relatively relaxed, inter-group form or in the form of „special interest“ activities.
The Werkschulheim Felbertal is committed to the Christian canon of values (see mission statement). We religious education teachers endeavour to educate the children entrusted to us in the spirit of the Gospel to become responsible Christians and to deal with existential issues. In addition to denominational (Roman Catholic; Protestant) religious education, we also offer religious activities during free time.
Our offers:
The Werkschulheim has also had a local branch of the Austrian Alpine Club since September 2019. We are therefore part of the largest alpine association and the largest youth organisation in Austria and, by founding our own local group, we want to enable our pupils in particular, but also parents and teachers, to take part in our interesting nature and mountain sports programme and perhaps even become part of our training team.
Our free, up-to-date programme ranges from hikes and ski tours to climbing courses and can be found in the respective AV magazine of the Salzburg section as well as on the Internet at https://www.alpenverein-salzburg.at/Gruppen/Ortsgruppen/Werkschulheim-Felbertal/Programm visible.
We also want to promote the relationship between people and nature, with all its treasures and values. The aim is to take our educational mission in terms of environmental protection and nature conservation beyond the factory school classroom, and the AV local group offers an excellent platform for this.
The idea of safety is also very much in focus in our local group, as the „residual risk of the mountain“ can never be completely eliminated, but at least you can learn to deal with it - through mindfulness and constant dialogue with each other, as well as training and further education: Through the Alpine Club Academy, functionaries of our local group can take advantage of a high-quality training programme - this ranges from youth leader courses to the various instructor courses (e.g. ski touring, mountain biking, etc.) and state-certified instructor courses. Details can be found at https://www.alpenverein-akademie.at/akademie/index.php.
If you are interested in joining our local group and taking part in the numerous activities, you can register directly online at https://www.alpenverein.at/portal/mitgliedwerden/mw.php register. It is important for us that you indicate our local group (Salzburg section) on the second registration page.

The scouts and guides at the Werkschulheim meet regularly for home lessons. During these sessions, the path to the scout promise is prepared, scouting techniques are learnt and work is carried out according to the eight focal points of the scout movement. We also plan varied activities such as field games and weekend camps.
Since Start of the factory school home there is a separate Scout group Werkschulheim. The founding fathers of the school were scouts themselves, and the Laying the foundation stone for the factory school home 1951 at an international jamboree near Lake Wolfgangsee. This spirit of community, independence and responsibility ultimately gave rise to the school as we know it today.
