We have always attached great importance to sustainability at the Felbertal work school, and this has become even more important in recent years.

It has always been very important to us to source the food and products we need from suppliers in the local area. Whether it's bread, meat or vegetables for the kitchen or materials for the workshops - whenever possible, we source products from our region.

But sustainability has also always been very important to us when it comes to energy supply. From the very beginning, we have drawn our drinking water from our own well and since 2009 we have been supplying our 17 buildings with heat from our own biomass heating plant. The wood chips come from the forests in the neighbourhood.
Between 2008 and 2018, the majority of our boarding school buildings were thermally refurbished in order to save valuable energy.
We have installed PV systems on almost all roofs in cooperation with Salzburg AG. The system on House 6 supplies the school's dormitory with electricity and covers the base load here. The rest of the electricity produced is fed into the Salzburg AG grid and thus also supplies other households or companies with ecologically produced electricity.
In addition, we are constantly converting our lighting to energy-saving LED technology.
We now have 3 purely electrically powered vehicles in our fleet.
By constantly improving public transport connections, we are also making a significant contribution to saving unnecessary car kilometres for passenger transport. There are now also direct connections from Mondsee and Hallein to the works school centre.
For several years now, we have been equipping our pupils with reusable drinking bottles that they can fill up at our drinking water dispensers. This contributes to the health of the pupils and avoids unnecessary waste.
All of these measures have led to us being recognised as a Climate Alliance company since 2015.
But there is more to come and the topic of sustainability will be included in the planning and implementation of the upcoming school construction project (renovation and extension of the school and administration wing).
