Dual education in Salzburg – learning means development

The Felbertal school hostel is a Private grammar school with public rights. Due to the dual training programme, we are considered a „special form of AHS“.

The final certificate contains the full baccalaureate and the apprenticeship qualification (with the option of completing the modules for the master craftsman's certificate). The curriculum of our school-based training programme is based on that of a Realgymnasium as well as a Gymnasium, but has some attractive special features:

  • A central feature of our type of school is the intensive focus on Technical work in the lower school with a total of 20 hours per week per year from the 1st to the 4th grade. This is unique in Austria to this extent. We are convinced that not only cognitive skills, but also creative and manual skills should be promoted in young people.
  • In the sixth form, this concept is further developed by the school-specific Craft training in the areas of Joinery technology,  Mechanical engineering and Mechatronics further deepened and intensified.
  • Due to the technically orientated craft training, our school offers intensive training in both the craft and grammar school areas. Computer science training. MicroStation, AutoCAD and SolidWorks are used as CAD design programmes, while sPlan and Eagle are used as EDA programmes.
  • English is taught from the first to the ninth grade, and English is also used as a working language in some subjects in the upper school.
  • Latin is a compulsory subject from the third to the seventh grade and leads to a university entrance qualification. This is also unique in Austria.
  • French is taught as a compulsory elective subject in the upper school from Year 8.
  • A separate language section with a special focus on Latin is offered especially for students who are entering the sixth form without any knowledge of Latin. Spanish offered. Latin is not taught in this language programme.

In addition to many annual projects and workshops, the annual Experience and Project weeks At the end of June, another speciality of our type of school. The aim is to provide pupils with sporting, social and cultural experiences outside of everyday school life in a group setting.

In the upper school in particular, in addition to the practical and technical components Economic accents in the form of business administration and business auditing.

Reading and learning together in the library

Our multimedia school library is a place for reading and learning, meeting and communicating, working together, relaxing and retreating.

The two school librarians Ulrike Heidlmayer and Johannes Heidlmayer ensure that everything runs smoothly.
