Scissor jack

Moritz Dinges

The scissor jack impresses with its simple but robust design and makes it much easier to lift vehicles in emergency situations. Using the jack enables repairs and maintenance to be carried out on the underside and wheels of a vehicle. The most common use is to change tyres in the garage at home or in emergency situations on the road. Jacks are mostly used outside garages for punctures or other unintended spontaneous situations where the vehicle needs to be lifted. The scissor jack is one of the most classic and simplest jack designs. Here, the two lifting arms of the structure are continuously pulled together with the aid of a crank, thus stretching the jack upwards and lifting the vehicle. However, the decisive disadvantage of such a scissor jack is that, compared to a hydraulic jack, far more physical force is required to achieve the same effect.
