Reclaimed wood cabinet „Alma“

Hannah Lechner

The reclaimed wood cabinet ‘Alma‘ I designed is inspired by the traditional „Almaschränke“. This traditional Austrian construction method goes back many years and has proven its quality and charm over time. My old wood cabinet ‘Alma‘ is made of solid old spruce wood. The carcass is joined with tines. Frame joints and ridge joints have enabled me to guarantee the shrinkage of the wood. The four hand-jointed drawers are also made of reclaimed spruce and contribute to the character of the furniture. The back panel, consisting of a frame with two panels, is nowadays considered a special design feature, as this type of construction is rarely seen. The drawer fronts and the two doors are hinged onto the frame. Both doors are hinged with a fish hinge and can be locked with a box lock. The small door with grille in the top left-hand section is a particular eye-catcher. The key plates and shell handles made of patinated brass harmonise wonderfully with the look of the reclaimed spruce. The „Alma“ reclaimed wood cabinet is a wonderful addition to any room. It is an extraordinary eye-catcher in a modern setting. The reclaimed wood cabinet ‘Alma‘ is not only an aesthetic addition, but above all a labour of love. This traditional piece of furniture, typical of our region, is a part of Austrian culture.
